During a recent interview with CBS Morning (via Fangoria), James Gunn described Clayface as “a complete horror film.”

We’ve got Clayface, which is a totally different thing. Although it’s in the same universe, it’s a complete horror film. That’s one of the things we want to do – there’s not a company style. It’s not like every movie is going to be like Superman. The artists – the directors and the writers – each one will bring their own sense to it… That’s what we want to bring to the films because we don’t want people to get bored. We want to invigorate people.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn revealed “the whole [second] season of Peacemaker revolves around” the idea of “pocket universes” introduced in Superman.

Yes, absolutely it is. You’ll see in Peacemaker [season 2], too… It’s just Lex’s version is much jankier than the one in Peacemaker. The one in Peacemaker works better. What the whole season of Peacemaker revolves around is that.

I think of Peacemaker as more of a high-concept story about one other world. It’s more akin to Philip Roth’s [1996 novel] The Counterlife than it is to the third Spider-Man movie [2021’s No Way Home]… I love that movie, but it isn’t about that. It isn’t Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s really a very simple, simple story about [Chris Smith’s] relationship to this one other world.
